Advancing Statewide Health Data interoperability and use for a Stronger, Healthier Washington
Overview
Launched in January 2026, the Washington Alliance for Health Data Exchange (WAHDX) is a neutral, statewide alliance working to advance health data interoperability and use across Washington.
Through collaborative governance and active engagement with public and private partners, WAHDX helps ensure that health data can move securely and efficiently to the people and organizations that need it. We bring stakeholders together around shared priorities, align initiatives and infrastructure, and help turn health data into meaningful action.
Our use case-driven approach is designed to reduce duplication, strengthen health data policy and infrastructure, and expand access to the information needed to improve health across Washington.

WAHDX supports a multi-sector, distributed governance model that brings together public and private partners to guide how health data is exchanged and used across Washington.
Our governance approach is designed to protect privacy and security, prevent unauthorized use, promote transparency, and ensure that decisions about health data reflect the perspectives of the organizations and communities that rely on it.

Executive Advisory Committee
The WAHDX Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) brings together statewide alliances and associations representing many of the organizations and communities essential to Washington’s health ecosystem.
As an alliance of alliances, the EAC provides a forum for aligning priorities across sectors, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and ensuring that statewide health data initiatives are informed by the communities they are intended to serve.
The EAC works to:
1. Strengthen health data policy by identifying barriers, opportunities, and policy improvements that support responsible data exchange
2. Align initiatives, use cases and data infrastructure investments to reduce duplication of efforts and ensure interoperability with other statewide efforts.
3. Engage Washington’s health care and community stakeholders so that proposed changes to shared infrastructure, standards, policies, and requirements are visible and informed by those effected.

State Oversight
WAHDX collaborates with Washington’s HIE Oversight Committee to ensure all data exchanged through the health data utility meets the highest standards of security, privacy, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
